Khalti Ice Festival is unique in the world in that the event takes place in a natural hockey ground after the ice freezes over the Fateh-feet-deep lack several kilometers away. The festival is scheduled from 9 to 11 January.

How did the lake come into being?

Years ago, there was a village here. When the mountain naturally broke here, it stopped the flow of the river. Due to this calamity, many families were buried under this lake. Along with people, many cattle and people's cultivated lands were buried under this lake.

Where does the water come from?

The water of the lake reaches here, passing through the Yasin region and the Phander Hills. The water from different lakes is pooled together. These include Handarb and Bathrat. Apart from them, the water of various small lakes is also collected at the Khalti. The waters of two rivers join together, including the Yasin River and the Phander River.

Where is the lake located?

When you reach Islamabad by plane from any country in the world, then you need to take a plane ticket to Gilgit from Pakistan International Airlines. It takes 45 minutes from Islamabad to Gilgit flight. Passing through high mountains, you will reach Gahkuch city by a road trip through the beautiful villages of Ghizer, Gilgit Baltistan. Finally, you will reach Khalti Lake within two hours of your road trip. The village of Khalti looks like a paradise on Earth. High mountains and the road crossed from the center of the mountain going through the corner of the Khalti Lake.
